1. APA ITU DEMAM?
Demam adalah naiknya suhu badan dari suhu normal 36-37.5’C iaitu lebih 37.5’C. Demam sebagai pertahanan badan si bayi jika ada serangan bakteria/virus. Ketika ini, suhu badan naik automatik sebab si comel sedang bergusti sendiri melawan infeksi itu.
Itulah kita sebagai ibu bapa relax sajalah jika bayi itu tetap aktif bermain, minum dan makannya okay. Tak perlu berikan ubat penurun panas. Biarkan saja tubuhnya bekerja secara alami.
2. CARA MENURUNKAN SUHU TUBUH BADAN BILA DEMAM
A) Gunakan kain tuala kecil dibasahkan dengan air panas suam (Tapid Sponging) lalu diletakkan di dahi, perut, leher, ketiak dan celah paha. Air hangat suam ini dapat membantu pembuluh darah di kulit mengembang lalu membuka pori-pori dan memudahkan mengeluarkan suhu panas dari dalam tubuh.
B) Adalah satu kesilapan jika anda:
Menggunakan air sejuk, air ais atau ketul ais sebab hal ini bukannya menurunkan suhu tubuh badan tetapi meningkatkan lagi suhu badan kerana iar dingin menyebabkan pembuluh darah di kulit mengecut sehingga panas dibawa darah ke kulit, terhalang.
Apatah lagi bila demam ada yang suruh mandikan anak dengan air sejuk. Kasihan si anak lagi menggigil serta lagi naiklah demamnya. Kalau nak buat ekspirimen,jika kita ibu bapa demam, cuba terus pergi mandi air sejuk. Pijak lantai bilik air pun dah menggeletar. Apatah lagi nak mandi air sejuk?! Kalau periuk panas dibasuh poun akan berasap. Biar periuk itu sejuk terlebih dahulu, baru basuhkan. Bukan?
3. BERSELIMUT KETIKA DEMAM
Hindari menyelimuti si comel yang demam atau memakaikan baju yang tebal seperti jaket atau pakaian ketat yang boleh meningkatkan suhu badan. Sebaiknya gunakan pakaian yang tipis dan longgar, yang dapat menyerap peluh sehingga suhu badan si comel menurun ke paras normal
4. KERAP MINUM AIR
Demam paksa badan mengeluarkan cairan lebih banyak seperti peluh dan kencing. Maka rajin-rajinlah menyusu atau beri air yang banyak kepada bayi anda untuk mengelakkan dehidrasi. Lagi banyak cairan diberi, maka lagi banyaklah cairan yang keluar melalui urin yang juga menolong menurunkan suhu badan yang panas.
5. JANGAN GUNA AIR SEJUK!
Kalau nak dimandikan juga bayi/kanak-kanak yang panas, dibolehkan tetapi air yang digunakan haruslah air yang hangat suam. Jangan gunakan air sejuk. Dengan begitu, tubuh menjadi segar dan nyaman. Setelah mandi, keringkan tubuh dengan kain tuala dan terus cepat tutup badan dengan pakaian.
6. TAK PERLU MAKAN UBAT JIKA ANAK MASIH AKTIF
Anak tidak perlu makan ubat jika ia demam tetapi boleh makan, minum seperti biasa. Hanya jeram jelum anggota badannya dengan air panas suam. Ubat diberikan jika suhu badannya mencapai lebih dari 38’C.
Kalau bayi/anak anda demam berpanjangan lebih dari dua hari, kelihatan lesu, hilang selera makan minum, panas kejang, susah bernafas, muncul bintik merah atau biru di tangan, muntah, cirit birit, ini tanda infeksi kuman/virus yang tubuh badan bayi tidak berupaya melawan. Segeralah bawa bayi/anak berjumpa dengan doktor. Doktor akan siasat punca panas dan infeksi tersebut. Mungkin antibiotik diperlukan.
